for the given equation

a=1

b=1

c= -2

then,

alpha+beta = -b/a

= -1

alpha. beta =c/a

= -2

1/alpha+1/beta = alpha+beta/alpha.beta

= -1/-2

= 1/2

hope so it will help:)
