x²-kx+k²

solution

α²+β²=(α+β)²-2αβ→(1)

given

α²+β²=28

and we know α+β = -b/a

                        αβ = c/a

substuting in eq (1)

we get

28 =(-3k)²-2k²

28 =9k²-2k²

7k² =28

 k² =4

  k=±2
