Hola there,
p(x) = x² - x - 4
a = 1
b = -1
c = -4
So,
α + β = -b/a = 1
&
αβ = c/a = -4
Now,
=> α/β + β/α
=> (α² + β²)/αβ
=>[(α + β)² - 2αβ]/αβ
=> (1² - 2(-4))/(-4)
=> (1 + 8)/(-4)
=> -9/4. ...Ans
Hope this helps...:)
