ANSWER

  • Given
  • α , β are the zeroes of the polynomial p( x ) = x² - 5x + C
  • α - β = - 1 → α = β - 1
  • C = ?

α - β = - 1 ----------------- ( 1 )

α + β = - b/a

α + β = -(-5)/1 = 5 -------- ( 2 )

Adding both the equations

α + β + α - β = 5 - 1

2α = 4

α = 2

→ α = 4/2

→ α = 2

♦ β = 2 - 1

♦ β = 1

x = 2 , 1

Substituting x = 2,1 in x² - 5x + c = 0

Substituting x = 2

→ 2² - 5(2) + c = 0

→ 10 - 4 = c

→ c = 6

Substituting x = 1

→ 1² - 5(1) + c = 0

→ 5 - 1 = c

→ c = 4

Hence, c = 6 , 4
