given:- alpha and beta are roots of x²+5x-1 -10= 0

equation is x²+5x-11 = 0

it's in the form of a quadratic equation

ax²+bx+c = 0

we know that..in quadratic equation

sum \: of \: zeroes =  \frac{ - b}{a}

so \: alpha  + beta =  \frac{ - 5}{1}

hence, alpha + beta = -5
