Given :- if an alloy contains only two metals a and b in the ratio of 3:9.5 determine the percentage quantity of a in the alloy ?

Solution :-

given that,

→ ratio of a and b is = 3 : 9.5 = 3 : 95/10 = 30 : 95 = 6 : 19 .

{ by taking LCM }

Now, let us assume that, quantity of a is 6x and quantity of b is 19x .

than

→ total quantity of alloy = a + b = 6x + 19x = 25x.

and,

→ quantity of a in alloy = 6x .

Therefore,

→ quantity of a in the mixture = (quantity of a * 100) / (quantity of total alloy) = (6x * 100) / 25x = 24% (ans.)

Hence, quantity of a in the alloy is 24% .

SOLUTION :

GIVEN

In an alloy contains only two metals a and b in the ratio of 3:9.5

TO DETERMINE

The percentage quantity of a in the alloy

CALCULATION

Here it is given that in the alloy contains only two metals a and b in the ratio of 3 : 9.5

So the ratio is 3 : 9.5

On simplification we get

 \sf{}3 : 9.5

 \displaystyle =  \sf{}3 :  \frac{95}{10}

 \displaystyle =  \sf{}30 :  95

 \displaystyle =  \sf{}6 :  19

So the share of metal a in the alloy

 \displaystyle =  \sf{} \frac{6}{6 + 19}

 \displaystyle =  \sf{} \frac{6}{25}

Hence the percentage of metal a in the alloy

 \displaystyle =  \sf{} \frac{6}{25}   \times  \: 100  \: \% \displaystyle =  \:  \sf{}24 \:  \%

FINAL ANSWER

The percentage quantity of a in the alloy = 24%
