The charge of the atom is neutral as it has equal number of protons and electrons .
Protons carry positive charge and electrons have negative charge so +1,-1 neutralise get neural

An electron is a negatively charged particle whereas a proton is a positively charged particle. The magnitude of their charges I'd equal. Therefore an atom containing one electron and one proton will be not carry any charge . Thus it will be a neutral atom.
