For an electric appliance the energy consumed is defined as the product of its power and time.

For this bulb power =1000w

And time for which it is used = 1hr.

Thus Energy consumed = 1000 × 1

= 1000kwh.

Now we know 1kwh of energy is

3.6 \times {10}^{6} j

Thus the energy consumed by the bulb in joules is

3.6 \times {10}^{6} \times 1000

 = 3.6 \times {10}^{8} j

Thus energy consumed by bulb in 1hr is

3.6 × 10^8J.

An electric appliance of rating 1000 W , 220 V is used across 220 V for 1 hr.

We have to find the amount of energy consumed by it.

what does it mean Rating of the appliance is 1000 W, 220V ?

it means, if we connect it across the circuit of 220 volts potential difference, it will dissipate 1000 Joule of energy in a second.

[ note : 1 watt = 1 joule/sec ]

now, Energy consumed by the , E = 1000 J/sec × 1 hr

= 1000 J/sec × 3600 sec

= 3.6 × 10⁶ J

Therefore, it is clear that the amount of energy consumed by it is 3.6 × 10⁶ J.
