Hey MATE!!!

Let us assume the number to be x.

Therefore, from the given condition we get that;

 { \frac{x}{2} }^{2}  - x = 48 \\  \\  \frac{ {x}^{2} }{4}  - x = 48 \\  \\  {x}^{2}  - 4x = 192 \\  \\  {x}^{2}  - 4x - 192 = 0 \\  \\  {x}^{2}  - 16x - 12x - 192 = 0 \\  \\ (x  + 12)(x - 16) = 0 \\  \\ x =  - 12 \:  \: or \: x = 16

Hope it helps
