The image is 20 cm behind the mirror, and the size of the image will be 2/3 times the size of the object.

Given,

The focal length = 60cm

Distance between the mirror and the object, v = 30cm

To find,

The image distance, v.

The magnification of the image, m.

Solution,

This question can be easily solved by the mirror formula.

the focal length, f = + 60 cm

u = - 30cm (since the object is on negative side)

Using mirror formula,

1/f = 1/u + 1/v

⇒ 1/60 = -1/30 + 1/v

⇒ 1/v = (1+2)/60

⇒ 1/v = 1/20

v = +20 cm

The magnification of the image,

m = -v/u

⇒ m = - (-20/30)

m = 2/3

Hence, we can conclude that the image is 20 cm behind the mirror, and the size of the image will be 2/3 times the size of the object.
