SOLUTION

GIVEN

α and β are roots of equations 2x² − 4x − 3 = 0.

TO DETERMINE

The value of α + β and αβ

EVALUATION

Here the given equation is

2x² − 4x − 3 = 0

Comparing with the general equation

ax² + bx + c = 0 we get

a = 2 , b = - 4 , c = - 3

Thus we have

α + β

= Sum of the zeroes

= - b/a

= + 4/2

= 2

αβ

= Product of the zeroes

= c/a

= - 3/2
