given that:-

α-β=8

now,

α = -b/a = -(-2)/1

β=c/a = k/1

put this value in the given equation,

we get,

α-β=8

=> -(-2) - (k) = 8

=> 2 - k = 8

=> k = 2 - 8

=> k = -6
