let A= 1 B= -6 and C= a

sum of zeroes of quadratic polynomial= -B/A

(α+β) = -B/A

[ α+ (-2) ] = -(-6) /1

α -2 = 6

α = 8

Then products of their zeros = C/ A

αβ = a/A

( 8) (-2) = a/1

-16 = a

hence a= -16
