if any exam ask question"" how many types of matter?"" then ans will be 3 or 5?
Answers
According to all these websites and videos, I have come across. There are 7 types of matter as of till now. no worries! they are further sub-classifications in all of them.
Solids, liquids and gases are the three states of matters which we all have been taught since primary to high school.
The remaining 4 state of matter turns out to be a lot cooler!
Yah! all the molecules are closely bound and unlike liquids and gases, they have some definite shape and volume. And upon applying high pressure they deform to an extent and then break based on the type of material considered.
Copy that! all the molecules are not closely bounded as of solids and have a definite volume but no definite shape. They simply take up the shape of whatever they are put in. Even at high pressure, they are incompressible.
Roger that! all the molecules are set into motion in random directions and have no fixed volume and shape. They are compressible and the compressing pressure is different for different types of gases.
When the solids are heated all the way through gases and further to higher temperatures they slowly tend to loose the electrons orbiting them. Electrons and nucleons are separated from their parent atoms. And they start to move randomly with higher kinetic energy.
BOSE-EINSTEIN CONDENSATE
This is the fourth state of matter. when the solids are further cooled down to temperates near the absolute zero(0 k or -273.15 °C). They stop transferring kinetic energy between themselves. Now, the molecules motion stops and all the atoms clumps together and act as a single entity. This state of matter was found out by the Indian physicist Satyendra Nath bose along with the einstein.
QUARK-GLUON PLASMA
As we all know the atoms are made up of protons, electrons and neutrons. Similarly, these subatomic particles are made up of more fundamental particles called quarks and gluons. when the plasma is further heated these separated electrons and nucleons are further dissociated into more fundamental particles i.e. quarks and gluons. these state of matter is found in the cores of hot stars. (due to extremely higher temperature in the cores of the burning stars). This type of matter is generated by the scientist at LHC and RIHC to study the origins of the universe. As this state of matter was involved in the big bang.
DEGENERATE MATTER
These are highly dense or highly compressed state of matter often found in the centres or cores of massive stars. The primary source of pressure is no longer thermal but quantum.
