I think the force become doubled because

when the velocity increases then force increases

F=ma

force =( mass × acceleration)

and acceleration = change in velocity upon time

a =  \frac{dv}{dt}

if velocity is double then acceleration will be double the the force will be double

F= 2 ma

we know that: f=ma

acceleration =dv/dt

so if velocity get double hence the will also get doubled

so, f=2ma
