x³ + 1/x³ = 110

.°. (x + 1/x)³ - 3(x + 1/x) = 110

Now,

Let us assume that x + 1/x = k

.°. k³ - 3k - 110 = 0

We can also write this as :

k ( k² - 3) = 110

k ( k² - 3) = 5 ( 5² - 3)

Thus,

Comparing both the L.H.S and R.H.S ,

we can say that :

k = 5

Thus,

As k = x + 1/x

"x + 1/x = 5"
