Given : Distribution of 1000 candidates as regards their marks in written examination out of 300

And interview out of 100 in a selection examination

approximately 325 candidates were to be qualified in the written examination,

To Find :         What should be the percentage of the qualifying marks

Solution:

Written Marks         Frequency        cf

260 & above                100             100

210 -  259                      80              180

160 - 209                      154              334

110 -  159                      380              714

60  -109                      190               904

Below 60                      96              1000

Total                            100

approximately 325 candidates did obtain more than qualified

209.5  -   50 *  ( 325 - 180)/154

= 209.5  -  47

=  162.5

percentage of the qualifying marks = (162.5)/300 * 100 =  54.16 %
