I don't know the correct reason
My answer is
Atoms even though they are small they have huge amount of energy stored in them and due to centrifugal force of attraction may also be another reason

Atoms are small but are bonded by strong nuclear force which is very high and when the atoms split this energy is released , and according to law of conservation of energy the energy must not be destroyed and this large magnitude of energy is big explosion.boom!
