Let the series of the consecutive numbers are (x-2),(x-1),x,(x+1),(x+2)

The average of the above numbers can be expressed as

{(x-2)+(x-1)+x+(x+1)+(x+2)}/5= 5x/5=x=28

Therefore the smallest number is 28–2=26

And the series is 26,27,28,29,30.

The actual question deals with the even numbers only so kindly consider the answer below.

Thanks to bring it to my notice.

So the numbers are ( as even numbers are divisible by 2)

(2n-4), (2n-2), 2n, (2n+2),(2n+4)

Therefore {(2n-4)+(2n-2)+ 2n+(2n+2)+(2n+4)}/5=10n/5

=2n=28

so the smallest number is 28–4=24
