ax+b=0

you need to move the terms to the other side of the equation, untill only X is on one side, in order to do that simply do the oppisite that is being done to the terms:


(a)(x)+b=0


b is being added so you subtract b from both sides, so on the left the +b and the -b cancels each other out, your left with:


(a)(x)= -b


now a and x are being multiplied, thats why their so close together, sense the oppisite of multiplication is division you divide both sides by a to get


x= -b/a
