Answer:

4×5 matrix

implies

no of rows = 4 = horizontal

no of columns = 5 = vertical

no of elements in third column = no of rows = 4

Concept:

We need to first recall the concept of matrix to answer this question.

Any system of mn elements (Real or Complex) arranged in a rectangular array in m rows and n columns is called an m × n matrix.

An m × n matrix can be written as:

A_{mn}=\left[\begin{array}{cccc}a_{11}&a_{12}&...&a_{1n}\\a_{21}&a_{22}&...&a_{2n}\\:&:&:&:\\a_{m1}&a_{m2}&...&a_{mn}\end{array}\right]

Given:

A matrix B of 4 × 5 type.

To find:

We have to find The number of elements in the third column of given matrix.

Solution:

Since B is a matrix of order 4 × 5.

So,           Number of rows in B = 4

and    Number of columns in B = 5

The number of elements in third column is equal to the number of rows in matrix B.

Hence, The number of elements in third column = 4.
