Step-by-step explanation:

Given

If BANARAS IS CODED AS 238, Delhi is coded as 168 then PATNA IS CODED AS ?

Based on alphabets we get A = 1 etc,

B A N A R A S = 2 + 1 + 14 + 1 + 18 + 1 + 19 = 56

Now number of letters = 7

So Banaras is coded as 238

So 238 – 56 / 7 = 26

Now for D E L H I  = 4 + 5 + 12 + 8 + 9 = 38

So Delhi is coded as 168

Now number of letters is 5

So 168 – 38 / 5 = 26

We now know 26 is common.

So P A T N A = 16 + 1 + 20 + 14 + 1 = 52

So number of letters is 5

So x – 52 / 5 = 26

So x – 52 = 130

So x = 130 + 52

So x = 182

So Patna is coded as 182

Patna = 182

Step-by-step explanation:

We have,

Banaras = 238 Delhi = 168

To find, Patna = ?

Put A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, ...., Z = 26

The pattern follow,

\dfrac{Coding letters-Sum of position letter}{Number of letters} =26

∴ Banaras = 2 + 1 + 14 + 1 + 18 + 1 + 19 = 56

and number of letters in Banaras = 7

\dfrac{238-56}{7} =\dfrac{182}{7} =26

Delhi = 4 + 5 + 12 + 8 + 9 = 38

and number of letters in Delhi = 5

\dfrac{168-38}{7} =\dfrac{130}{5} =26

Similarly,

Patna = 16 + 1 + 20 + 14 + 1 = 52

and number of letters in Patna = 5

\dfrac{x-52}{5} =26

x-52=26\times 5=130

x=130+52=152

x=152

Hence, Patna = 182.
