Nice question !

The Answer is : light and sound are waves they need a medium to travel .

so, light can travel through any medium whether it may be solid , liquid , gas or if there is no medium also .

whereas , sound compulsory need a medium to travel .

for example in our surroundings air is the medium for sound to travel.

in a vacuum air is absent so air can't travel in it .

so I think this answer may help you.

  • Light waves are type of electromagnetic waves.
  • Sound waves require medium for its production and propagation.
  • Sound waves are produced due to the vibrations of molecules of medium and as there is no matter in space the sound waves cannot propagate in vacuum.
