So Tap A and Drain B fill (1/4)-(1/9) = (9–4)/(4*9) = 5/36 th of the cistern in 1 hour. So Tap A and Drain B together fill the cistern in 36/5 or 7.2 hours. A cistern can be filled by one pipe in 12 minutes and emptied by another pipe in 15 minute.
