If Buddhism is so good why are some Buddhist countries so poor ?

This is a good question and I used to think that as well. Tibet, Bhutan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia etc. all seem to be “poor developing countries” if you consider it from an economic sense. What about their HDI? Because of their beliefs and understanding of Buddhist practices, what is their murder/crime rate, safety, trust, divorce rates and family ties?

I appreciate the simple life in those countries - why would you need 24hr news/TV when you have nature? why would you need 4G when you have friends and family surrounding you. why would you need to always show off on social media when there is no point in showing off?

Perhaps if we use a different scale to measure rich/poor on what truly matters to living - then these Buddhist countries would suddenly be the richest in the world.
