y1=y1y2y3

Now, so that no borrowing can occur, 

x3≤y3,x2≤y2 and x1≤y1

Thus the total number if values assumable by x3 ( and subsequently by y3 ) is ;

10+9+8+......+1=55

Along similar lines, it can be argued that the number of values the pair (x2,y2) takes is 55 as well.

x1 and y1 both cant assume the value 0, because then they want be 3 digit numbers.

Thus for y1 being 9,x1 can be 1 to 9 and so on. Total number becomes :

9+8+7+.....+1=45

Thus, the total number of pairs of x1 and x2 that can be formed making sure that n1 from n2 does not involve any borrowing is 55×55×45
