Now, the horizontal(Bh) and vertical(Bv) components of earth's magnetic field satisfy the equation,

Bv/Bh = tan(∆)

Therefore, ∆ = angle of dip= arctan(Bv/Bh),

If Bh = Bv( as per question),

Therefore, ∆ = arctan(1)

That implies that ∆=45 ∘.

‘arctan' is just the inverse tan.
