Angle of dip is an acute angle given by,

\sf{\longrightarrow\delta=\tan^{-1}\left(\dfrac{B_V}{B_H}\right)}

where,

  • \sf{B_V=} vertical component of earth's magnetic field.
  • \sf{B_H=} horizontal component of earth's magnetic field.

Here,

\sf{\longrightarrow B_V=B_H}

Dividing by \sf{B_H,}

\sf{\longrightarrow \dfrac{B_V}{B_H}=1}

Taking tan inverse,

\sf{\longrightarrow \tan^{-1}\left(\dfrac{B_V}{B_H}\right)=\tan^{-1}(1)}

\sf{\longrightarrow\underline{\underline{\delta=45^o}}}

Hence 45° is the angle of dip.
