let original price be x
according to the question,
540=x-(4/100×x)
540=x-(x/25)
540=(25x-x)/25
540=24x/25
540×25=24x
x=(540×25)/25
x=1125/2
So,
x+(12/100×x)
=x+(3x/25)
=(25x+3x)/25
=28x/25
=[(28×1125)/2]/25
=(14×1125)/25
=15750/25
=630.
Therefore he should sell it at the rate of ₹630 to gain a profit of 12%.
