The person's height stop increasing as growth plates get fused but cell divivsion do not stops as it repairs the old cells caused due to damage or aeging.

Explanation:

The growth and repair in the body happens due to the process of motosis in somatic cells of the body.

After the age of 18 years to 20 years the height ceases to grow because height depends on  growth plates in the bone (epiphyses). The growth plates gets fused at certain age as puberty and there are no more need of increase height to adjust the growth plate in bones.

We shrink in height as we get older is also because of this growth plate.

The height is also determined by the genetic makeup and good nutrition in growing years.

Cell division i.e mitosis takes place in the body to repair the old and fragile cells with new on eafter we attain puberty and no more gain in height.
