When onion peels are kept in hypotonic solution, water moves into the cells of the onion peel by osmosis. The cells take in water and become turgid. The cells however do not burst due to the presence of the cell wall surrounding the cell membrane of the the onion cells.
Contrary, when RBC are put in hypotonic soultion, the cells will take in watee through osmosis and will eventually burst, process kown as cytolysis. The red blood cells lack the plant cell wall which resist further pressure from the water influx and thus they burst.
