SOLUTION

GIVEN

The co-ordinates of P and Q are - 9 and - 1 respectively

TO DETERMINE

d (P ,Q )

EVALUATION

Here it is given that the co-ordinates of P and Q are - 9 and - 1 respectively

Since co-ordinates of P and Q are of same sign

So Both lies in same side of the origin

Also - 1 > - 9

Hence the required d (P ,Q)

 \sf = |Q - P |

 \sf = | - 1- ( - 9)|

 \sf = | - 1 + 9|

 \sf = | 8|

 \bf = 8
