\bf{CO_2} concentration leads to an increase in the rate of photosynthesis. But, beyond a certain limit, \bf{CO_2} starts accumulating in the plant and this leads to slowing down of the process.

So, excessive \bf{CO_2} inhibits photosynthesis especially when it starts to accumulate.

If {\bf{CO_2}} concentration can potentially increase photosynthetic rate, but

  • photosynthetic rate will eventually be limited by other factors, such as the amount of light present/the rate of light absorption of the planteven ignoring other limiting factors, photosynthetic rate can only increase up to a certain point. How high that point is depends on temperature and plant size/species, so it’s hard to say exactly how much photosynthetic rate will increase based on {\bf{CO_2}} concentration and it’s also hard to say when it’ll plateau.
