because in excess it forms calcium bicarconate which is colourless

WHEN EXCESS OF CO2 IS PASSED THROUGH LIME WATER IT LOSES ITS MILKINESS DUE TO FORMATION OF ( CAHCO3 ) CALCIUM HYDROGEN CARBONATE OR CALCIUM BI  CARBONATE.
