if cos theta=-29/21 then what is the value of sin theta?

sanya0107: plzz help
Shivanayer: cos theta = b/h
Shivanayer: then by using Pythagoras theorem we will find perpendicular =-20 and sin theta =p/h then put the value of p and h and ans is -20/21

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

If cos theta = 29/21, you get hypotenuse = 21 and adjacent side =29, by Pythagoras theorum you can find the opp side. Sin theta= that opp side/ given hypotenuse

merajakhtar6830: ye kya hai
sanya0107: it was negative .....
sanya0107: and my real que was that sin theta should be -/+...
anlitta990037: theta is negative when the Y value of the point formed by the angle is negative
merajakhtar6830: nope
sanya0107: Y value?
sanya0107: u can transfer negative sign to both numerator as well as denominater as per ur choice

If cos theta= -29/21, then what is the value of sin theta?

Answer :

Step by step explanation :

We know that,

 \tt{sin {}^{2} \theta + cos {}^{2}  \theta}  = 1

 \tt{sin {}^{2}  \theta + ( -  \frac{ 29}{21} ) {}^{2}  = 1}

 \tt{sin {}^{2}  \theta + ( \frac{841}{441} ) = 1}

 \tt{sin {}^{2}  \theta = 1 -  \frac{841}{441}}

 \tt{ sin {}^{2} \theta =  \frac{441 - 841}{441} }

 \tt{sin {}^{2}  \theta =  -  \frac{400}{441}}

 \tt{sin \theta = -   \sqrt{ \frac{  400}{441}} }

sin theta = -20/21

sanya0107: as sin square theta is negative thats why sin theta will be a complex no. and not real
sanya0107: how could u say its negative
sanya0107: bcoz cos is negative in 2&4 quadrant and sin in 3&4
