The Cost of a dozen pencils is ₹ 30

a) How many pencils can be bought for ₹ 30?

b) What is the cost of 1 pencil?

c) How many pencils can be bought for ₹ 15?

Solution,

Cost of 12 (a dozen) pencils = Rs. 30

COst of 1 pencil = Rs. 30/12 = Rs. 2.5

Let us find answers of above questions one by one:

a). Number of pencils that can be bought for Rs. 30

= Rs.30/Rs. 2.5 = 12 pencils

b). Cost of 1 pencil = Rs 2.5 (proved above)

c). Number of pencils that can be bought for Rs. 15

= Rs.15/Rs. 2.5 = 6 pencils

d). Number of pencils that can be bought for Rs. 60

= Rs.60/Rs. 2.5 = 24 pencils

e). Number of pencils that can be bought for Rs. 90
