It depends on current carrying capacity of conductor. If the new current is very much within its rated capacity, it is quite safe, so long as the circuit has no problem
Heat generated within this conductor will certainly go up 4 times, but if current remains within conductor rating, and if heat gets dissipated to surroundings, this is no problem.
