Given :-

  • Common difference = d = -2
  • 22nd term = a₂₂ = -39

To find :-

♦ First term = a = ?

Solution :-

We know that:

aₙ = a + (n - 1)d

Similarly,

a₂₂ = a + (22 - 1)d

→ -39 = a + 21d

→ -39 = a + 21(-2)

→ -39 = a - 42

→ -39 + 42 = a

→ a = 42 - 39

→ a = 3

First term = a = 3

Know more:

• A set of numbers is said to be in A.P or Arithmetic Progression if their common difference is constant.

• Common difference is the difference between the second term and the first term of an A.P
