Given info : two triangle ABC and PQR are given in such a way that ∆ABC ~ ∆PQR and also ar(∆ABC)/ar(∆PQR) = 16/9 , AB = 2 cm and AC = 12cm .

To find : The value of PR

solution : as ∆ABC ~ ∆PQR

so, AB/PQ = BC/QR = AC/PR

then ar(∆ABC)/ar(PQR) = (AB/PQ)² = (BC/QR)² = (AC/PR)² ------- (1)

but ar(∆ABC)/ar(PQR) = 16/9 ----- (2)

from equations (1) and (2), we get

16/9 = (AC/PR)²

here AC = 12 cm

⇒16/9 = (12/PR)²

⇒(4/3)² = (12/PR)²

⇒4/3 = 12/PR

⇒PR = 9 cm

Therefore the value of PR = 9 cm.
