According to distance formula,

\sqrt{[x2-x1] + [y2-y1]} = Distance between two points

Therefore, \sqrt{[2-(-1)] + [3-a]} = 3

\sqrt{3 + 3-a } = 3

\sqrt{6-a} = 3

-a = \frac{3}{\sqrt{6}}

-a = 1.224\\a = -1.224//\\

Hence  the  value  of  a  is  1.224

a= 1.224
