If distance of a point (k, 4) from origin is 5 units then find the value of k.

let the origin point be A (0,0)

and other point p ( k,4)

given distance between them is 5

use distance formula

d =  \sqrt{(x2 - x1) {}^{2} } (y2 - y1) {}^{2}

then put the values

you get

5 =  \sqrt{k {}^{2} + 4 {}^{2}  }

25 - 16 = k {}^{2}

k =  - 3 \: or  + 3
