When divided by (x - 2) leaves remainder 2

x - 2 = 0

x = 2

↪ P(2) = 28 + 2a+ b ..... 1st

When , p(x) is divided by (x+2) , it leaves remainder -2

x+2 = 0

x = -2

↪ p(-2) = -4 - 2a + b ..... 2nd

On equating the equations 1st and 2nd

28 + 2a + b = 2

-4 -2a+b = -2

b = -12

Therefore ,

a = -28 -b/2

a = -28+12/2

a = -8
