Explanation:

Since DNA strands run anti-parallel, the 3' to 5' template strand will be continuously replicated and is known as the leading strand.

This method is called semi-conservative mode of DNA replication.

  • Meselson and Stahl proved the semi-conservative mode of DNA replication. They experimented with N_{15} andN_{14} and through a series of experiments of E.coli they proved that the DNA replication was semi conservative.
  • In this method of DNA replication the daughter DNA consists of one old (parental) DNA and one new DNA strand.
  • The new strands are complementary to the old strand and the genetic material is equally divided in both daughter cells.
  • Thus, due to this method the original genetic material can be passed down generations thereby exhibiting semi conservative mode of DNA replication.
