Let the edge of the cube be x units.

Since Surface area of the cube = {6a}^{2}

= {6x}^{2}

When, a = 2x

Then , the surface area of cube = {6a}^{2}

=6*{(2x)}^{2}

= 6* {4x}^{2}

= 4* {6x}^{2}

= 4*surface area

Therefore, its surface area will increase 4 times.

suppose that the edge of the cube 'a' when it's doubled then edge will be '2a'

Here, initial surface area=

6a {}^{2}

final surface area=6(2a)^2

therefore, surface area is increased by 4times
