If each edge of a cube is doubled.How many times will its surface area increase?How many times will its volume increase?

ANSWER

Surface area of cube = 6a²

Is sides of cube is doubled

New surface area is = 6 × 4a²

Divide 2 by 1

= 24a²

 \frac{suface \: area \: of \: cube \: 2}{surface \: area \: of \: cube \: 1}  =  \frac{  {24 \: a}^{2}  }{ {6 \: a}^{2} }

= 4 times

Surface area increased 4 times .

Volume of cube= a ³

Volume of new cube= (2a) ³

= 8a ³

Divide 2 by 1

 \frac{volume \: of \: new \: cube}{volume \: of \: cube}  =  \frac{ {8a}^{2} }{ {a}^{3} }

Volume increased by 8 times.
