Question

If each of the dimensions of a rectangle is increased by 100%, then the area is increased by?

Detailed solution

Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be L and B respectively.

So, the area is L*B.

When dimensions are increased by 100%, the new length and breadth would be = 2L and 2B.

Therefore, new area = 4LB.

% increase in the area = (new area - old area) * 100 / old area

Substituting the values,

(4LB -LB) *100/LB

3LB * 100/LB (cutting of the common LB)

3 * 100 = 300%

Therefore, area increased by 300%.

Last required answer

300%
