Dear student...If electron affinity of element M is x kJ/mol then ionisation potential of this element will be equal to x.As we electron affinity is x+e-------> x- and ionisation ptential is x- --------> x + e-.....The latter reaction is thd reverse of previous reaction , and we know the energy required to push a reaction to its products would be directly reversed to push it back to its reactants ( with opposite sign)....
