if energy is neither created nor used up, where did energy come from in the first place?

For this we have no answers.
We assume that there was a body with infinity mass and zero volume and it contained all energy. When it blasted it released it into space forming space itself. Which we call big bang theory.
Another assumption is that big bang is cyclic. When a universe stops expanding space collapses into itself to a zero volume making conditions for another big bang.
Even dark matter gives additional mass also came from big bang.
So, we dont know from where did energy came from. Hope we will find it one day!
So let's study hard become scientist.

According to law of conservation of energy energy can neither be created nor be destroyed it remain constant
