The epiglottis is a small organ present in near the throught. It make the bolus (foodmaterial) slide through the food pipe without entering into trachea....
So, if suddenly the epiglottis fails in doing its function there is a chance of the food particles entering into the trachea and then to the bronchus and there the food might get strucked. Then we may face problems in breathing and if left like that one day we might die due to lack of oxygen.
