signum \: function \: f(x) =  \frac{ |x| }{x} \\ so \: f( - 12) =  \frac{ | - 12| }{ - 12}  =  \frac{12}{ - 12}  =  -1 \\ f(24) =  \frac{ |24| }{24}  =  \frac{24}{24}  = 1 \\ f(0) =  \frac{ |0| }{0}  = 0 \\ f( - 12) + f(24) + f(0) =  - 1 + 1 + 0 = 0
